This week on Tech Tuesday, we take a closer look as to why there are few women in the world of programming. As research shows, girls have little to no exposure to computer programming, as seen with the most gender skewed AP class in the country, computer science which has only 14% female enrollment. Many of the women who pursue a career in computer science credit early exposure to programming as the greatest factor to their decision in becoming engineers. Hence, the solution to increase exposure of computer programming to girls is to introduce the subject at an early age. There are now multiple programs available to teach young girls how to program starting as early as middle school. With this, we give our girls a chance to explore more options, and show that they can do anything they want.
